A-Line Coaches, a family business, was established in 1973 within the Metropolitan Borough of Gateshead, Tyne and Wear
Since then we have enjoyed a wide and varied Bus & Coach operation. Initially relying on coach use, we take our passengers on a private hire basis to local events, race meetings, coastal trips, UK tours and much more. In the early 1980s we expanded into Continental Europe visiting countries as far as Switzerland, Italy and Yugoslavia. We still occasionally travel to closer European destinations such as France, Belgium and Holland. Although at the present time we are only able to offer the organisation for group breaks into Europe.
In 1987 we started our flagship service M12 route connecting to the Tyne and Wear Metro from the Fairways Estate, Wardley which has now grown to run through to Gateshead Interchange and Newcastle, from June 2015 it will operate a revised route and only run as far as Gateshead. Over the years we have also become contractors to Tyne and Wear Passenger Transport Executive (TWPTE) via NEXUS, supplying transport to and from schools also Metro and Ferry replacement as required.
In 1992 we were contracted to run services on behalf of the Rank Group in Gateshead initially to the Top Rank bingo hall on the High Street then to the new Mecca Bingo hall on East Street in Gateshead when it was opened in 1994 bringing passengers into the hall from Chester le Street, Birtley and Gateshead. We currently still run these services as MB1 for Gateshead Interchange to Mecca shuttle bus, with MB2 running from Chester le Street and Birtley to Mecca.
In 1996 we were made an approved contractor for Northumbria Police transporting officers around the Country as required for special events where more support was needed for crowd control etc. This operation has always been very successful, we have received commendations from the Chief Constable on many occasions.
We are long serving members of The Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT) and have been for over years. One of our partners has been the Chairman of the Northern Region many times and has been on many National Committees in London. We are members of CPT Mutual Aid Scheme whereby it is possible for this company to receive immediate response from other CPT operators in all parts of the UK should there be a breakdown or other circumstance that might prevent our vehicle from carrying out the journey. This means that our passengers can be on their way in a very short time, rather than facing a possible long wait.
The ability to organise large numbers of passengers over a short or long period is one of the assets of which we are particularly proud of. Our organisation is capable of making the job of moving passengers, in whatever numbers required making it easier for our customers. We run a mixed fleet of vehicles, which includes luxury coaches and service buses with coach seats and seat belts.
